Helping Professionals Develop a Social Media Strategy

By Jennifer Henderson

Last month, Carole and I were honored to lead a workshop for business owners in Caroline County, Maryland, titled “Establish a Social Media Strategy for Your Small Business.” We outlined how businesses can benefit from having a clearly defined social media strategy. The event was hosted by SCORE Mid-Shore, a non-profit organization that promotes small business success through mentoring and workshops.

After presenting a case study about the social media strategy developed by a small business, we presented an overview of social media channels and tips on deciding what tools to use. We then talked about how to evaluate whether or not social media efforts are working.

After that, we broke into roundtable discussions with attendees to share tools and ideas to help them figure out their own social media strategy. We thoroughly enjoyed talking with the attendees–small business, government, and education professionals. A few of the points we covered include:

  • How to create an editorial calendar
  • How to develop and repurpose content
  • How to measure results
  • The importance of blogging
  • How to use images to attract followers

As a small business owner herself, Carole particularly enjoys working with small businesses to help them leverage their unique content to increase their position in the marketplace and succeed. We enjoy doing these workshops and Clear Message Media is available to lead similar presentations. Contact us if you know of a group interested in learning new ways to increase their social media presence (for example, this workshop is ideal for a chamber of commerce gathering). Thanks so much!
