Why Your Website Needs a Favicon

By Corinne Hayward

When I was updating Clear Message Media’s website, I saw a category under appearance called Favicons. I didn’t know what it was, so I looked into it, and a Favicon is the icon that shows up in the browser bar next to the website name. It is a great way to make your site easily recognizable. Not only does it further your website’s brand, it makes your website look finished; in fact, it looks incomplete without one.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Not only is adding this feature to your website important, it is also incredibly simple. Just pick an image that suits your website. It should be a square image that will look good on a small scale. Images for favicons should be 16×16 pixels. You can either resize an existing photo, or create a tiny image specifically for use as a favicon.

If you do not choose a favicon for your website, then often what appears is a generic grid.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????If you are using a Bluehost website, just go to the appearance section, then the favicon subsection, and select your image. For additional help in adding a favicon to your site, here are a couple of great articles:
